On Tuesday, October 8th, Elias Audio Branding – in conjunction with UMPG’s Music for Advertising, Film & TV team and UMP Classics & Screen – hosted a Q&A and performance with Nicholas Britell at Republic Studios in New York City.
The Academy Award-nominated composer, known for scoring all four seasons of Succession, sat down with UMPG’s Head of US A&R Jennifer Knoepfle for a conversation on the intersection of film, music, and branding.
To an audience of music supervisors and marketing executives at brands and agencies, Nicholas gave fascinating insights into his career, the steps he took to begin composing full time, and his mindset when he’s composing. He did a deep dive into “Agape” from If Beale Street Could Talk, discussing the life it has taken on outside of the film. Then, in a rare and unforgettable moment, he sat down at the piano to break down how the song was made, taking the room’s collective breath away and reminding us all why we chose to work in music.
This was the second installment in a series of sessions we’ve hosted for our brand clients at Republic Studios, following on from a Jack Antonoff event in April.
